Cheating in poker by Russ Georgiev
When to cheat in poker?.
This is a very hard question to answer as your character and ethics enter the equation. Many may ask why Russ Georgiev cheated in poker? Since I am Russ Georgiev, I will answer a question that needs a proper answer. I was competitive all my life and at 15 years of age bowling was my life, though I played cards all the time.
I played all games with my family and used to play duplicate bridge several nights a week. I accumulated in excess of 100 masters points in my early teens. However, I was soon so good in bowling I planned on being a professional bowler. In my mid teens, it was easy making money bowling, as my age wouldn't let older guys admit I was better.
Soon I was the highest classified bowler in the Northwest, having to even spot Earl Anthony in handicap tournaments. Pot games (games for money) became very hard to find, but everyone played poker. I was into poker at age 16 and gambled in all games. While age 16-17, I was cheated all the time. Finally, I caught a group cheating me. They weren't good, but they were capable. I never said a word and they soon realized I had caught them cold decking me. This was an all African American game, so I didn't say a word. However, they knew they'd been caught and started joking with me. From then on, the games were honest when I played with them. The stakes were small.
It was here I learned about cheating. As I became better, I found cheating was everywhere in poker. You ask what is the best way to cheat in poker? Easy question here. When someone asks what the best way to cheat in poker, the answer is whatever will get you the money the easiest way.
Let's get back to why Russ Georgiev started cheating poker. The better I became as a poker player, the better I became at catching cheats. I expected them in home games and learned how to neutralize cheating poker. Most cheats at this time were mechanics and there are things you must do when you're a mechanic. It's these things that give mechanics away if you know what to look for.
While in my late teens, I would always win and was even robbed by cheats. The big leagues when I reached 21 were in Gardena, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. Soon I was on my way to Gardena, then the poker capital of the world. Soon I had blown my bank roll of $25,000 to a form of cheating I wasn't familiar with, saving bets and collusion. I was broke with nothing but my car left.
I sold my car and started at the bottom. I was playing 16 hours a day and was slowly getting my money back. However, as I played, I also watched. Soon I realized all the bigger games were being cheated. Even the smaller games were being cheated on occasion. If I wanted to play in the bigger games, I either had to join a group and cheat or not play. THIS is why Russ Georgiev cheated in poker. It was either cheat or be cheated.
As to what is the best way to cheat in poker, it's a game of evolution. While card mechanics ruled in the 60s and before, they were soon replaced by marked cards and collusion. When the question of what is the best way to cheat poker arises, the best and safest way of cheating in poker is collusion with marked cards. It's a form of cheating in poker that's close to impossible to be caught. The only evidence of cheating in poker are the marked cards. How do you prove who put the cards in or marked them, or who can read them?

Of course all cheats will have losing sessions. The funniest cheat who lost money in poker did so against me in Denver, Colorado. He was a legendary cheat and made a lot of money cheating in poker. The following incident occurred when Denver, Colorado opened for poker back about 1984.
Jess Pearce AKA 'The Big Indian' was a holdout artist. He was traveling with another holdout artist and both were cheating in poker. I knew Jess Pearce by reputation, but I knew his friend well. I never had much respect for card mechanics in those days, as so many had tried cheating me in poker. Here was another who was going to try cheating me in poker.
I went to my friend and told him Jess Pearce might as well quit the game as I would bust him and it didn't matter that he was holding out two cards. The game was Omaha pot limit 8 or better. I told my friend out of courtesy that none of Jess's cheating moves would work on me and even made a dozen cheating moves to exaggerate them
.Jess was told and just laughed. A half hour later, with Jess cheating in poker the whole game, he and I were finally in a pot. The board came A33, 8,10. All the money went in on the river and Jess declared 'nut-nut.' I said, "Are there six 3s in this deck?" Jess started the hand with about $10,000 and was allin. Now he comes with, "Oh, Aces full and nut low." I told him to take half his stack back, as I had nut-nut. Jess quit the game and never played Omaha again. He went back to Holdem, where his type of cheating in poker was devastating.
So if you want to know what is the best way to cheat poker, the answer is through collusion and marked cards in the casino's today?
